How to Fix Error Code 0x80070005
The error code 0x80070005 reads, “Access is denied. You do not have permission to perform the requested operation.” This seems to be a common problem with the XP operating system that occurs after Service Pack 2 is installed. This can also happen if the name of the computer is unknown, or if there is an issue with the administrator ID during login.
- Step 1: Download and Run/Save the Error Repair Tool
- Step 2: Next, click the SCAN button.
- Step 3: Click the REPAIR button to fix your errors.
To fix this problem, adding the permission “Access this computer from the network” to the user account that desires to run the scheduled task can correct the problem and enable access. Under the Start menu, bring up the run prompt, type “Gpedit.msc” to access the Group policy editor. Under the Local Computer Policy list, expand Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, and Local Policies. Next, click on “User Rights Assignment” and double click “Access this computer from the network.” Click “Add User or Group,” then add the name of the user or group in the “Enter the object names to select” area. Finally, click “Check names” and exit by clicking OK twice. Program access in scheduled tasks should be allowed now. Sometimes just selecting the checkbox “Run Only if Logged On” fixes the issue just as well.
If the user or group is already part of “Access this computer from the network,” add the user or group to “Log on as a batch job.”
NTFS permissions can be causing the problem, if that may be the case, run the following command from the command prompt to reset NTFS to its default permissions.
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
If the error message is received when trying to access a shared folder on the network, the following steps should allow access.
Right-click on the desired folder, then click on “Properties.” Select the “Security” tab, click on “Add,” then “Advanced” then Find Now, the Everyone, then click “OK” then “OK” again. Finally, click “Apply” and “OK.”
